Annual Maker Faire Calls for Makers

Kansas City’s 7th annual Maker Faire event is scheduled for June 24-25. Event organizers have put out a “call for makers.” The application deadline is May 14.

The annual event has been described as the “Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth.” It showcases innovation and inventions from a variety of people encompassing all age groups.

Maker Faire Kansas City is a family-friendly event held at Union Station. Last year’s event featured more than 1,800 makers and maker assistants as well as more than 17,000 attendees and 350 booths, many offering hands-on activities.

This year’s Maker Faire Kansas City has added a new twist.  Strawberry Swing, recently recognized as one of the top 35 fairs of its kind in the world, will be part of the event. The indie craft fair features handmade works of art that combine traditional craft techniques with modern, off beat and unconventional styles, contexts and subject matters. Maker Faire visitors will meet expert crafters celebrating the handmade movement in the most unexpected ways.

Innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, inventors and others who would like to participate can apply by the May 14 application deadline.
