KC Startup Idea Jab Embarks on Kickstarter Campaign

Idea Jab—a card game that helps players dream up business ideas—is working to raise $16,000 through a new Kickstarter campaign.

Idea Jab was created by Matt Callegari and Alex Laughlin of local startup Midnight 30 LLC.

How does Idea Jab work? Each card lists a different type of demographic, revenue model, business style or app, and they prompt players to think of a business concept in 45 seconds. The winner is whoever’s able to convince the dealer their idea is best.

Laughlin and Callegari say Idea Jab can be used as a teaching tool in the classroom or as a team-building and idea-generation exercise in the workplace. You can find the Kickstarter page here.

“‘Business Ideas 101’ isn’t a course schools typically offer,” said Anna C. Lampe, executive professor of management and undergraduate program director at Rockhurst University’s Helzberg School of Management, “which is why I think this game is going to rapidly catch on in classrooms nationwide …The game immerses students in this all-new experience of competing and collaborating to develop their own new business ideas, helping to strengthen their creative-thinking skills and restore confidence in their own ideas.”

Want to hear more about Idea Jab in person? Callegari and Laughlin will be presenting at the Feb. 15 1 Million Cups at the Kauffman Foundation.
