SBA Releases 2015 Small Business Procurement Scorecards

The federal government earned an A rating for its handling of small business procurement during FY 2015, and three agencies even received an A+ rating, the U.S. Small Business Administration reported.

The SBA just released the results of its annual small business contracting scorecards. The three agencies that scored an A+ were the General Services Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the SBA.

The scorecards assess each federal agency’s annual small business contracting achievements against its goal using a grade of A+ through F.

The federal government scored an A for 2015 because it was able to meet its statutory goal of awarding 23 percent of federal contracts to small businesses. This marks the third year in a row that the federal government has reached this goal. In 2015, the government awarded 25.75 percent (the highest ever) in federal contracts to small businesses for a total of $90.7 billion.

The U.S. government also broke a record in 2015 by meeting its goal of awarding 5 percent of federal contracts to women-owned small businesses. It also met its contracting goals for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses and small disadvantaged businesses.

“This report card is our way to recognize those agencies who lead by example,” said John Shoraka, associate administrator for government contracting and business development. “We want to encourage every part of the federal government to do business with small enterprises in the communities where we live and work.”

Here’s the overall breakdown of the FY 2015 scorecard for government agencies:

  • “A+” – 3 agencies
  • “A” – 18 agencies
  • “B” – 3 agencies
  • “C” – 0 agencies
  • “D” – 0 agencies
  • “F” – 0 agencies

Five agencies’ grades increased from last year’s scorecard. Sixteen agencies’ grades stayed the same, and three agencies’ grades decreased.
