SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza Founder to Retire

Gail Lozoff, a founding partner of popular SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza, will retire on July 1.

Lozoff founded the restaurant with her husband Richard Lozoff and Edwin Brownell in 2005. Brownell will remain with the company as CEO.

The fast-casual SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza grew from its initial location in Overland Park to 10 Kansas City area restaurants. Eventually, corporate franchises were also opened in Lawrence, Kan.; Dallas, Texas; Omaha, Neb., and Alameda, Calif.

Ownership will remain local. An investment group—Spin Partners Inc.—led by Topeka, Kan., businessmen Jim Klausman, Butch Eaton, Lee Eaton, and Brett Klausman will become partners in a deal that is expected to be completed soon.

The partners in the investment group are partners in the SPIN! Pizza franchise for Topeka, Lawrence, Wichita and Manhattan, Kan. They are also involved in several other local restaurant chains.

“We have a fabulous organization with many committed people who have been with SPIN! for years and have been the face of the SPIN! brand to our guests. The hard-working restaurant team members, and office staff, will be the same people who will continue to take care of you when you visitWe are, as always, dedicated to serving delicious artisan food with friendly service in our neighborhood restaurants,” Lozoff said in a release.

The restaurant has won numerous awards and recognitions, including a number one ranking from Zagat among Kansas City area pizza restaurants.

James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Smith, who is also a partner in SPIN!, helped to develop SPIN!’s recipes. He will continue to be involved in that role.

Klausman is looking forward to even more growth for the company. “I’ve had experience with SPIN!, initially as a fan of the restaurants and later as a franchisee. Both have made me a strong believer in the brand and its future. Gail Lozoff leaves a legacy of excellence with this brand. We are excited that Edwin Brownell will lead SPIN! as CEO going forward.”

The Lozoffs and Brownell also founded Bagel & Bagel, which became Einstein Bros. Bagels.
