UMKC’s Rebecca Gubbels Named Missouri State Star

America’s SBDC, the national association of Small Business Development Centers, has named Rebecca Gubbels the 2017 Missouri State Star. Gubbels, a business specialist at UMKC’s Small Business & Technology Development Center, was honored for her contribution to local business growth.

“Rebecca is a true ambassador for the SBTDC,” said Carmen DeHart, regional director of the SBTDC at UMKC. “She is an unparalleled advocate for small business in the Kansas City region with sincere enthusiasm for her clients, her teammates and her partners.”

Gubbels joined UMKC in 2012 after serving as vice president and small business product manager for UMB and has an extensive background in finance. She has also been the director of business development for a CPA firm and was the assistant vice president and small business banking officer for Commerce Bank.

The Missouri Star award isn’t the first recognition Gubbels has received for her work with Missouri firms. She was awarded the Associated Industries of Missouri Extension Industry Award in 2016.

Gubbels will receive the official State Star recognition at the ASBDC national conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in September.

The SBTDC at UMKC provides educational resources to individuals who want to start and grow a business.
