Veterans Community Project Plans Charity Benefit for Veterans Village Effort

You can celebrate Veterans Day – and help raise money for housing that serves homeless vets.

The Veterans Community Project, a nonprofit that builds tiny houses for veterans, will hold its first celebration from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Firestone Building, 2001 Grand Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri. Event Imagineers, a Kansas City company, is organizing the event.

The money raised will help the Veterans Community Project as it builds out Veterans Village, a five-acre project at 89th and Troost. (The land was acquired through the Kansas City Land Bank.)

In addition to building a series of tiny houses, the Veterans Community Project also plans to develop a community center there and offer services to residents.

Organizers view the tiny homes as transitional housing – they want to offer “360-degree service solutions” to veterans who join the community. They hope their organization will become a blueprint for other cities seeking to end homelessness among veterans.

Tickets for the Nov. 11 event cost $45 to $75 and can be ordered from this website. Country musician Noe Palma will perform. Guests will also enjoy a cocktail hour and buffet dinner, live and silent auctions and tours of a tiny house.
