Thinking Bigger Business News Update

Five More Early-Stage Startups Picked for Digital Sandbox KC

Five more local startups have been approved to receive coaching and support from Digital Sandbox KC.

The program helps young companies navigate from the idea stage to commercialization.

With the latest additions, a total of 69 companies have received proof-of-concept funding through Digital Sandbox KC. Sandbox companies have gone on to receive $22.7 million in follow-on funding and have created 247 jobs.

The new startups include:

FireBoard // Produces a cloud-connected thermometer so users can monitor temperatures remotely.

“Building hardware, it takes a substantial amount of research, development and investment—having the support from Digital Sandbox will help us launch our first viable product,” said Ted Conrad, FireBoard’s founder.

Foundation Accelerator // A software platform to help foundation-repair companies do a better job of staying organized and delivering better service.

Hybrid Communications (HCI Energy) // Produces a Hybrid Cube, a new, more environmentally friendly “portable power plant.”

Vector Legal Method // A subscription-based software solution that allows law firms, attorneys and clients to manage workflow related to litigation.

YouSpin // A mobile app that serves as an interactive jukebox for bars and other venues.

“Once again the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Kansas City can be seen by this group of diverse entrepreneurs,” said Jeff Shackelford, director of Digital Sandbox KC. “From portable power plants to socially interactive juke boxes, Kansas City startups cover it all.”

Digital Sandbox KC can help local startups pay for consultants, prototyping, beta testing, market validation and other needs. Applications are taken on a rolling basis, usually every eight weeks. For more information, visit www.digitalsandboxkc.com.
