Get your small business in shape at bootcamp

Small business entrepreneurs looking to gear up for growth can attend a free morning of bootcamp.

Small Business Bootcamp, hosted by the Mid-Continent Public Library’s Square One Small Business Services division, the City of Blue Springs and the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 8:30 a.m.-noon May 4.

Attendees will find seminars that pertain to varying avenues of small business management, including direct sales for a target market, managing difficult conversations in the workplace, e-commerce practices for beginners and using Facebook for business.

The bootcamp will kickoff with a keynote by Adrienne Haynes, managing partner of SEED Law. SEED Law works with entrepreneurs and business owners on legal solutions for sustainable business practices.

“This event will offer businesspeople of all experience levels the chance to learn and grow their skill sets,” said Amy Fisher, who leads the Square One team at MCPL. “Not only is it a good opportunity to learn from successful business leaders in our area, the bootcamp will also provide a platform for entrepreneurs to connect with each other and speak with representatives from local organizations that support small businesses.”

In addition to the Small Business Bootcamp, the MCPL’s Square One Small Business Services is offering three additional educational programs in May.

  • Building a Solid Foundation for Opening a Restaurant // May 15 at MCPL’s North Independence Branch. Xander Winkel from the Ennovation Center discusses the basics of regulations, marketing and financials in the restaurant industry.
  • The Changing Face of Retail // May 16 at Platte Valley Bank’s Smithville South Branch. My Etched Life and More Excuses Boutique discuss opportunities for independent retailers in the Kansas City market.
  • Facebook Advertising for Small Businesses and Organizations // May 22 at MCPL’s South Independence Branch. Learn about best practices with Facebook advertising.

Small Business Bootcamp, funded by a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, is at the Steven P. Westermann Fire & EMS Education Center, 4715 U.S. Highway 40, Blue Springs.

Registration is required for all Square One events.
