Hammerpress to Move to Larger Space

Hammerpress print shop and design studio has been making an impact on the eyeballs of Kansas City since 1994. Beginning in 2015, it will be doing so at a new headquarters in the Crossroads Arts District.

On Dec. 31, Hammerpress will close its current location at 110 Southwest Blvd. to move three blocks west into a larger facility at 500 Southwest Blvd.

“We will be reopening in February,” said Hammerpress founder Brady Vest. “We’re hoping to move quickly enough so that we can be open for Valentine’s Day traffic, which would be good.”

Hammerpress simply outgrew its old space, Vest said.

“We moved in seven years ago, and things have changed a lot,” he said. “We have more people and more production. The growth in our wholesale business has meant that we’ve needed to produce and store more inventory.

“We sell greeting cards all over the world. We’ve got a Japanese distributor, an Australian distributer, a U.K. distributor. And then we have reps that sell our stuff to stores around the country.”

Locally, Hammerpress has designed and printed many images for well-known commercial clients.

“We’ve done work for a lot of restaurants around town,” Vest said. “SPIN! Pizza is one that we’ve done a lot of work for over the last several years, and we just finished an overhaul of bluestem’s menu design and logo design. And we’ve done quite a lot of custom projects for Boulevard Brewing Company and the products that they sell.”

Besides giving Hammerpress additional space to conduct its wholesale, custom printing and custom design business, its new location will offer more room for retail customers to peruse and purchase cards, postcards, art prints, posters, notebooks, calendars and more.

The final opportunity for customers to visit the old Hammerpress site will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 31. To make it a festive transition—after all, it’s New Year’s Eve—all Hammerpress products will be marked down 40 percent.
