Some of the region’s best construction projects – work you probably have seen while driving around the city – were recognized last week by the Heart of America Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.

Twelve Kansas City firms were saluted during the organization’s Excellence in Construction Awards.

“The Excellence in Construction Award winners beautifully embrace the values of ABC — innovation, quality and safety — we are thrilled to honor the hard work that went into each project,” said Michele Roberts-Bauer, the president of the ABC Heart of America Chapter. “These projects exemplify how teamwork, careful planning, quality craftsmanship and perseverance can produce best-in-class results and we are proud to claim them as merit shop.”

The top prize, General Contractor Project of the Year, went to Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. of Columbia for its work on the South Lawrence Trafficway.

The awards also recognize companies with excellent safety records. This year, Herzog Contracting Corp. took home the General Contractor Safety Award while Shawhan Sheet Metal LLC won the Sub Contractor Safety Award and Wachter Inc. receive the Superior Safety Award.
