Mid-America Angels Invest in Rawxies, TVAX Animal Health

The Mid-America Angels invested more than $870,000 in two local companies, TVAX Animal Health and Rawxies, during the first quarter of the year.

maaTVAX Animal Health, based in Olathe, received $696,000. The company is a spinoff of TVAX Biomedical and specializes in medical treatments for pets. It has been working on a product to help dogs that have been diagnosed with bone cancer. The new investment will enable the company to continue developing its T-cell-based therapy.

Rawxies, which has its headquarters in Kansas City’s East Bottoms, produces vegan, gluten-free snacks. It received an investment of $178,000 that was led by the Women’s Capital Connection. The money will allow the company to add product lines and ramp up its sales and marketing.

“We’re proud to welcome two additional companies to our MAA portfolio, and look forward to working with the management teams of TVAX Animal Health and Rawxies to ensure both their continued growth and job growth in our region,” said George Hansen, president and CEO of the Enterprise Center of Johnson County.

ECJC oversees the Mid-America Angels, whose members invest in early-stage companies in Missouri and Kansas. If the Mid-America Angels continue at the pace set in the first quarter, the group could easily outdo the $2.3 million that its investors placed in six regional companies last year.
