IBSA is a Kansas nonprofit agency that provides development and support services to emerging entrepreneurs. A veteran resource partner of the Kansas Department of Commerce Office of Minority/Women Business Development, NetWork Kansas and KCSourceLink.com, IBSA assists low- to moderate-income entrepreneurs in the development of feasibility/business plans, computer needs analysis and setup, document preparation and ongoing counsel to help troubleshoot areas as needed. IBSA has been active in the promotion and advocacy of policies and procedures that increase corporate and government procurements with disadvantaged, minority, women, veteran and low-income microenterprises. HEDC offers one-on-one consultation services for current and aspiring entrepreneurs with a focus on providing education and information. With offices in Jackson County, Mo., and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, HEDC is conveniently located for clients throughout the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
The organization provides loans and microfinancing options to small businesses, particularly those owned by women and minorities, that don’t qualify for traditional bank financing. The loans can range in size from $500 to $50,000, but most tend to be for $8,000 on average. The money can be used for inventory, working capital, equipment or real estate.
HEDC team members are bilingual and entrepreneurs with many years of combined education and practical experience, allowing the organization to provide quality services that clients have come to expect for the past 20 years. While the target market is the Hispanic community, HEDC services are available to any and all interested in the business development services.

The Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program (HEMP) is dedicated to strengthening entrepreneurial leaders through excellence in mentoring. Applications to participate in the program as a mentee are due at the beginning of August of each year. Applicants must have been in business for at least three years and be the ultimate decision- maker for a business that generates around $1 million in annual revenue, with five or more full-time employees. In addition, the applicant must have a desire to substantially grow the business.
