SmallCakes Cupcakery is embracing another sweet treat—ice cream—with the opening of SmallCakes Creamery & Novelties at 6936 W. 135th St. in Overland Park.

The new concept store is located next to Hen House. Hours are noon to 10 p.m.

“SmallCakes already makes the best cupcakes, and now we are making the most amazing ice cream flavors ever,” said SmallCakes CEO Jeff Martin in a release.

Taking its cue from SmallCakes’ award-winning gourmet cupcake recipes at more than 90 franchise locations, the company’s fresh ice cream flavors include Salted Caramel Crunch and Orange Creamsicle. Customers can pick from popsicles, dipped chocolate bars and 15 daily flavors of ice cream.

Other items at the colorfully decorated store include cookie sandwiches, peanut butter pretzels and the Cupcake in a Jar.

“Our goal was to create a really fun environment for the whole family,” said Martin, who founded his company in 2008 in the Kansas City area.

Martin was featured on the cover of Thinking Bigger Business in January 2014.
