Smith & Loveless of Lenexa Purchases Colorado Company

Smith & Loveless Inc.—a Lenexa company that makes equipment for wastewater treatment, pumping systems and other water needs—has bought Schloss Engineered Equipment Inc. of Aurora, Colo.

The terms of the deal weren’t released. Smith & Loveless will merge Schloss products into its lineup, and Schloss will change its name to Schloss Environmental Equipment Inc., a Smith & Loveless Company.

Schloss specializes in headworks equipment that’s used in the screening, compacting, conveying and dewatering processes.

“The well-respected Schloss brand in screening technology and headworks dewatering equipment—established by the technical ingenuity of the Schloss family—stands for robust design and engineering, and remarkably complements Smith & Loveless’ market-leading grit removal equipment,” said Frank J. Rebori, the president of Smith & Loveless. “Our combined screening and grit removal technologies enable Smith & Loveless to deliver to our customers exceptional value and performance for municipal headworks and industrial liquid-solids separation applications.”

Both companies have a long history. Smith & Loveless dates back to 1946 while Schloss is more than a century old.

“Joining Smith & Loveless will accelerate the growth and legacy of the Schloss equipment line,” said Kristy A. Schloss, the acquired company’s CEO and president. “My father Charles Schloss (P.E.) and I are excited for this next chapter in the company’s 116-year history, powered by Smith & Loveless’ national and international distribution.”
