KC Is No. 7 on WalletHub List of Best Cities for Women Entrepreneurs

Kansas City landed the No. 7 spot on WalletHub’s list of the best U.S. cities for women to own a business.

The Nashville metro area led the list of 100 cities. Kansas City fell just behind Rochester, N.Y., and ahead of the area around Spokane, Wash. St. Louis was ranked 14th, Omaha was No. 19, and Wichita landed at No. 31.

The worst place for a woman to start a business? Surprisingly enough, the area around San Jose, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara in California—a key part of Silicon Valley.

The study looked at several factors, including the percentage of women-owned businesses, average revenue growth, the presence of an SBA-backed Women’s Business Center and how friendly the city is to new businesses, among other traits.

“Location plays a key role in the success of any business but an even bigger one for women-owned firms,” WalletHub reported on its site. “That’s because some areas are better than others at encouraging female entrepreneurship and recognizing its value.”
