Mixx Founder Plans New ‘Caffetteria’ Eatery Concept in Prairie Village

Jo Marie Scaglia, the restaurant entrepreneur who brought you The Mixx, is hard at work on her next concept, Caffetteria, a “modern café and marketplace.”

The new eatery will debut this fall at the Shops of Prairie Village – in the 4,000 square feet formerly occupied by Bruce Smith Drugs. That’s enough room for 100 customers at a time, not counting the patio seating at 71st and Mission Road.

So what can you expect from Caffetteria? Made-from-scratch, high-end meals produced in an open kitchen, delivered with a quick-casual approach. Guests will order at the counter, and servers will take their food to them.

“It is important to me to make people feel like they are at home at Caffetteria,” Scaglia said. “We cook everything with love and want to make each dish approachable for our guests.”

Scaglia plans to sell specialty foods, retail products and more, too, with an emphasis on items from local companies. There will be more updates over the coming months at www.caffetteriakc.com, as well as the restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram channels.

Thinking Bigger Business magazine previously featured Scaglia and The Mixx on its cover in 2015. The chain of eateries, founded in 2005, now includes three locations in Kansas City and Overland Park. It focuses on healthy, fresh food offered in a quick-casual setting.
