The MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy has announced the launch of its Inclusive Innovation Competition. The goal of the contest is to bring to light companies and organizations that will create more opportunity for workers in the digital era.
Participating organizations will come up with innovative ideas to improve the economic opportunity for middle- and base-level income earners. Winners of the contest will receive a slice of the $1 million prize pie.
Organization can apply to the contest in one of four categories:
- Skills – Participating organizations will work on innovations that teach new skills workers to prepare them for the future.
- Matching – Competing companies with look for innovations that connect qualified workers with job openings.
- Humans + Machines – Organizations will work toward innovations that expand the way humans and technology interact in the business world.
- New Models – Companies will try to develop new business models and practices for the digital era.
Over a five-week period, a group of judges will score each application and select five finalists in each category. Then, a committee will select one of the five finalists in each category to be crowned the grand prize winner. The top seed will take home the largest prize of $125,000. Remaining finalists in all four category will receive $25,000 each.
Organizations hoping to compete have until June 1 to apply, and until June 15 to complete their submissions. Finalists will be announced Aug. 10, and winners will be announced between Sept. 26-29.
