EyeVerify Tech to Appear in Chinese Company’s Smartphones

Local startup EyeVerify has just signed a deal that will place its biometric solution on a new smartphone from a Chinese mobile-device manufacturer.

ZTE will include EyeVerify’s Eyeprint ID on its new ZTE Grand S3, which can be ordered online in China. The price is 2999 RMB, or about $478 in dollars.

The deal was announced earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Instead of inputting a password, ZTE Grand S3 users will take a picture of their eye—or more specifically, the veins in the whites of their eye, which can be used to confirm a user’s identity.

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with EyeVerify that brings their leading Eyeprint ID solution to the ZTE Grand S3,” said Adam ZENG Xuezhong, executive vice president of ZTE Corporation and CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices.

“Our ZTE Grand series of smartphones is focused on offering the most secure devices in the market for business users worldwide. Coupled with EyeVerify’s leading solution, the ZTE Grand S3 represents an unbeatable option for smartphone privacy.”

The Grand S3 was actually launched in January; the version carrying EyeVerify’s Eyeprint ID is an “enhanced” reissue. ZTE is also planning to incorporate Eyeprint ID in other phones in the Grand series.
