Guy’s Snacks Launches Kickstarter Campaign for ‘Snack Size’ Bags

Guy’s Snacks has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $26,000 for a production run of “snack size” bags of chips.

The local food brand sells family-size bags in six states and online, but right now, it doesn’t offer a smaller option that’s a better fit for convenience stores and vending machines.

The campaign will run through the end of November. Donors will receive stickers, baseball pins, retro-style Guy’s T-shirts and, of course, bags of Guy’s chips. The company is also asking its fans to pick which of its flavor (in addition to its popular barbecue chips) should be part of the first snack-size production run.

You can find the Kickstarter page here.

Guy’s has a long history in Kansas City. It was founded back in 1938, when Guy and Frances Caldwell got their start selling roasted peanuts. The company entered the chip business and earned a reputation for being the first producer of barbecue-flavored chips in the United States. It became a major local employer.

But the company changed hands over the years, and the Guy’s brand fell into limbo—until the current team, led by owner Janine Joslin, purchased it a few years ago. Joslin has worked hard to reintroduce Guy’s Snacks to store shelves.

Thinking Bigger Business featured Guy’s earlier this year as part of our KC Futures column. You can read that profile here.
