An Idea With (Sea) Legs: Ocean & Sea Plans Pop-Up Shop in Sailboat

Ocean & Sea, a local apparel company with a nautical theme, is raising money for an audacious idea: a sailboat that it’ll use as a mobile pop-up shop.

Entrepreneurs Brendan and Amanda O’Shaughnessy have launched a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $20,000. Six days in, they have received pledges totaling about $7,000. Donors will receive T-shirts, mugs, stickers and other limited-edition Ocean & Sea products.

The campaign will end on Oct. 3.

Design-build company Second Life Studios will build the boat. The Ocean & Sea team plans to take it to festivals, universities and schools across the country. They’ll work with different nonprofits along the way and offer interactive art workshops.

“This sailboat will be landlocked,” Brendan O’Shaughnessy wrote. “It will function as a mobile Ocean & Sea pop-up shop through which we will sell our clothing, prints, accessories and lifestyle goods.”

This isn’t the first brand that Brendan O’Shaughnessy has created.

“The desire to run a clothing brand runs deep in my history,” he wrote. “When I was 17 years old, I owned and operated my first brand for over a decade. However, this brand ended two years ago when I received a case-and-desist letter that would change my voyage forever. This was a temporary setback that inspired the launch of Ocean & Sea—based on our last name—O’Shaughnessy.”
