Crossing Arrows, a local clothing line “designed by spirited women for spirited girls,” has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a production run of its new graphic T-shirts.
The company wants to raise $20,000 by Jan. 4. Backers can receive Crossing Arrows T-shirts, as well leggings, bomber jackets and other pieces the young company is producing. (Donate $500, and Crossing Arrows will let the young lady in your life help design a T-shirt.)
Part of Crossing Arrows’ mission is to push back against gender stereotypes in children’s clothing. It’s something that founder Tricia Steffes encountered in her own life with her 5-year-old daughter.
“After two and a half years of navigating Allie’s desire to wear boy clothes because her spirited taste didn’t have room for pink and princesses, I decided it was time to do something about the gender stereotyping that exists in children’s clothing,” Steffes said.
“All our pieces are designed with the spirited girl in mind. Our goal is to lift girls up and encourage them to take risks, to embrace failure and to focus on progress over perfection.”

“The response to our brand for spirited girls has been unprecedented,” said Hannah Kowalewski, Crossing Arrows’ marketing manager. “To say that people are excited about what we are creating is an understatement. Crossing Arrows is pleased to help spirited girls find their own style and hopefully help them in fulfilling their dreams. In additional to clothing … we are offering a community for parents as well as a strong philanthropic component surrounding child advocacy.”
