Kansas City startup Life Equals has just closed a round of seed funding that will allow it to improve its e-commerce site, continue its growth in stores and tune up its fulfillment processes.
Life Equals didn’t disclose how much it raised or who its new investors are.
The company, which was part of the SparkLabKC business accelerator’s 2014 class, sells a line of vitamins on a one-to-one business model. Every time a customer buys from Life Equals, the company donates a month’s worth of multivitamins, via the nonprofit Vitamin Angels, to undernourished kids under age 5 around the world.
“With this round of funding, Life Equals is in a position to rapidly upgrade their operation and roll out across additional markets,” said Kevin Fryer, managing director of SparkLabKC. “These investments will build brand awareness and volume, while reducing operating costs.”
Whole Foods, Hy-Vee, Nature’s Own Health Food Market and other retailers sell Life Equals products. The line recently expanded from three products to 10. And Kansas City Internal Medicine now counts Life Equals as its official vitamin provider.
“We are very pleased to complete this round of funding with investors that add experience and value,” said Kyle FitzGerald, the startup’s CEO. With business connections into large corporate organizations, we will be exploring the corporate wellness arena.”
