Carisa McMullen, the owner of Olathe’s Landworks Studio, has been chosen to serve on the Kansas licensing board for architects, professional engineers, land surveyors, geologists and landscape architects.
McMullen said she’ll work to make the Kansas State Board of Technical Professionals more responsive and useful.
“I would like to provide practicing professionals with easily, accessible information aimed at helping others to avoid the more common pitfalls,” she said. “These could include situations, such as practicing across state lines and lapsed licenses. Quick reference materials would also be valuable to municipalities responsible for approving plans and ensuring Kansas’s statues are upheld.”
Landworks Studio is a landscape architecture firm that has completed a wide range of projects, from parks to commercial to health care to housing. The company, which was founded in 2000, is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise in Missouri and Kansas.
While McMullen focuses on landscapes now, she has experience in other disciplines that should be valuable in her new role.
“Prior to starting my own company, I worked at both a small engineering and a large architecture firm,” she said. “This exposure has provided me with a wide perspective of practicing professionals across multiple disciplines. I appreciate the issues that thread through each design profession, in addition to those specific to a particular industry.”
