Building KC Newmark Grubb Zimmer

Local Firm Newmark Grubb Zimmer Devoted to Helping KC Prosper

When it comes to building Kansas City, Dr. Troy Nash and a firm in which he is a principal—Newmark Grubb Zimmer—have certainly left their mark.

Lifelong Devotion to Kansas City

A lifelong Kansas City native, Nash graduated from Kansas City public schools and has devoted his adult life working to build the Kansas City community.

Elected in 1999 at age 29 to the KCMO City Council, Nash served as chairman of the planning, zoning and economic development committee, where he presided over the largest economic development expansion in the history of the city.

Nash joined Zimmer Real Estate Services (d/b/a Newmark Grubb Zimmer) in 2007. He has been mentored by some of the city’s most extraordinary business and community leaders such as real estate legend Hugh J. Zimmer, who taught him the ins and outs of real estate development. He was also the special assistant to former mayor and current US Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II, who taught him civility can lead to bipartisan solutions to community problems. Nash also counts former Mayor Kay Barnes among his most influential mentors.

Devotion Continues as a Developer with Zimmer

Nash credits the mentorship of community activist Rosemary Lowe, who like Nash’s mother, reinforced the role of strong women in building community. She helped open the door for him in 2014 to become the first African-American executive to become a principal/ shareholder in a top commercial real estate firm in Kansas City history.

As a member of the Newmark Grubb Zimmer team, Nash has combined his dedication to building Kansas City with a firm that has the same goal. The firm, under the leadership of Hugh J. Zimmer, has been part of some of the most iconic developments in the area. Projects like the NNSA/ National Security Campus, the Sprint Worldwide Headquarters Campus, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and the Village West Tourism and Entertainment District are but a few of the marquee developments that reflects Zimmer’s contribution to building Kansas City.

As a real estate developer, Dr. Nash is involved in a variety of projects in Grandview, Kansas City, Kan., and the Beacon Hill area. Whether serving as vice-chairman of the Missouri Housing Development Commission, vice chairman of the KCMO TIF commission, or chairman of the board of St. Mark Child and Family Development Center, Nash stays busy working to better the Kansas City community.
