Small business leaders are urging MBE- and WBE-certified firms to attend a March 6 public hearing on Jackson County’s procurement and contracting policies.
The county government has a basic affirmative-action plan, but might be open to a more active program with goals for contracts with minority- and women-owned firms. The county has hired a national consultant, Colette Holt & Associates, to review its current policies.
The two-hour program will start at 10 a.m. March 6 at the Jackson County Courthouse’s Kansas City Legislative Assembly Area, 415 E. 12th St., Second Floor, in Kansas City, Mo. County leaders want to hear from both prime contractors and subcontractors about their experiences, any barriers they might have encountered and their ideas for making things better.
