Tom McDonnell plans to step down from his position as CEO and president of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation at the end of June.
Wendy Guillies, the foundation’s vice president of communications, will serve as acting president and CEO starting July 1.
McDonnell is leaving because the foundation has put together a multiyear strategic plan for its entrepreneurship and education outreach, without reducing its mission in Kansas City, and he wasn’t ready for a longer commitment to the job. He’ll continue to assist the foundation’s trustees and management through the rest of 2014.
McDonnell became Kauffman’s CEO and president after he retired from DST Systems, where he had been the president and CEO since 1973.
“When I accepted this position in 2012, I did so knowing that we had to take some significant steps to reinforce our commitment to Kansas City while continuing to deliver impact in the areas of education and entrepreneurship,” McDonnell said.
“It has been a privilege to work with our talented team, and I am very pleased with the progress we have made during my tenure. I look forward to continuing to work with the Kauffman Foundation and support the mission of this important Kansas City institution.”
