1 in a Million Pitch Contest Offers $25K Grand Prize

The Kauffman Foundation is bringing back its 1 in a Million pitch competition for a second year. And the top presenter could take home $25,000 in prize money.

The contest is open to entrepreneurs who have presented at a 1 Million Cups event sometime between Aug. 12, 2015, and Aug. 24 of this year. Entrants must submit a 60-second video featuring their elevator pitch by noon on Sept. 13.

Not only do competitors need to deliver a sharp presentation, they’ll also have to attract supporters online.

In late September, 40 semifinalists will be announced. Then, between Sept. 23 and 30, the public can vote on which ones should advance to the next round.

The 15 survivors will be asked to submit a three-minute pitch video, and there’ll be another round of public voting between Oct. 17 and 24.

Five competitors will make it to the final round, where they’ll have to create a six-minute video. A panel of judges will select the ultimate winner. We’ll learn that person’s name on Nov. 16. The other finalists will each receive $5,000 awards.

Last year’s top winner was local financial-tech startup blooom, which helps users maximize their 401(k) accounts.
