Roasterie Donates $22K to Region’s Universities

The Roasterie Air-Roasted Coffee, Kansas City’s only air-roasted coffee maker since 1993, is donating $22,000 to colleges and universities that offer its coffee on campus.

The money comes from a portion of 2013 sales of The Roasterie coffee at the schools or through the company’s direct donation. The Roasterie has been making such contributions to college and university partners since 2009.

The $22,000 will be distributed this month to Johnson County Community College, the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri, Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska and Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Each institution gets to decide how it spends the money it receives. For example, at the University of Kansas, the donation funds The Roasterie Retail Student Employee Scholarship, which is annually awarded to student employees who work in retail dining locations on campus.

Alecia Stultz, University of Kansas Dining Services assistant director of retail dining, said in a release: “Our partnership with The Roasterie has given us the opportunity to assist our student employees. Since the creation of The Roasterie Retail Student Employee Scholarship, 32 student-employees have been able to offset their financial need. We value the partnership we have formed with The Roasterie and are very appreciative of its team’s dedication to the success of our student employees.”
