Kansas City’s Sock 101 will make its national television debut Thursday when it’s featured on the latest episode of “Project Runway: Fashion Startup.”
The show will first air at 9:30 p.m. Central time Nov. 3 on cable channel Lifetime. It’s a little like “Shark Tank” for fashion companies. Participants pitch their ideas to a panel of established fashion entrepreneurs, including people like Katia Beauchamp, the CEO of Birchbox, and Christine Hunsicker, the CEO of Gwynnie Bee.
Sock 101 has set a goal of becoming the world’s largest sock-of-the-month club. Founders include Lea Bailes, Dave Feyerabend, Jason Grill and Kelly Yarborough.
Yarborough and Feyerabend represented Sock 101 on their episode of “Project Runway: Fashion Startup,” which was taped in May. The show’s producers approached the company about a year ago,
Not only will being featured help introduce Sock 101 to a national audience, it also allowed the company to get feedback from experts in the industry, said Yarborough, Sock 101’s chief wisdom officer.
To celebrate the broadcast, Sock 101 is hosting a watch party from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at No Other Pub, 1370 Grand Blvd. in the Power & Light District. Tickets cost $20, and half the proceeds will go to the Sean D. Biggs Memorial Foundation, which helps fight cancer and funds scholarships.

Can’t make it to the party? Sock 101 is planning a special deal on its annual subscriptions through its website.
