High Tech Solutions, a Lee’s Summit company that makes parts for the aerospace industry, plans to hire 46 new employees and spend $6.4 million on a new building at 1440 S.E. Broadway Drive.
The new 22,000-square-foot building is a few blocks south of High Tech Solutions’ current home. Work should begin next month. High Tech Solutions’ agreement with the city includes a commitment to nearly double the size of that new building in the next five years, at a cost of at least $8 million.
The company, founded in 2010, employs 19 people right now. Of the 46 new hires, at least 34 will receive wages equal to or higher than the county average.
The city has approved a 10-year, $360,296 tax abatement for the new building.
“The abatement the city provided has a direct impact on our day-to-day cost, which enables us to win more work,” said Dan Phillips, president of High Tech Solutions.
“We can’t charge more just because we are in Lee’s Summit. We compete in the worldwide market where work is awarded to the low bidder. The money we bring into the community comes from places like Mexico, Canada, California and Texas, not just recycling Lee’s Summit dollars.”
