This month, 138 countries will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, but – at the risk of sounding immodest – nobody puts together a GEW quite as good as the one in Kansas City. Here’s the proof.
Our GEW is actually 12 days long // It’s true! Most cities have planned events for Nov. 18-24. In Kansas City, things kick off Nov. 13. Frankly, we’ve got so much going on that seven measly days wouldn’t be enough.
We get to have Jimmy John’s for breakfast // Jimmy John Liautaud, the founder of the sandwich chain, is going to be the keynote speaker for the Kansas City Business for Breakfast on Nov. 13. The event will benefit Youth Entrepreneurs – get more information here.
And there’s going to be a birthday party // Kauffman FastTrac is kicking off a yearlong celebration of its 20th anniversary. Join FastTrac participants, alumni and leaders for a get-together at The Roasterie. (Which is pretty appropriate, considering that Roasterie founder Danny O’Neill was one of the first FastTrac students.)
Some of the best startups in the country will be in KC for GEW // Kansas City is hosting the U.S. finals for Get in the Ring, an international pitch competition. (Toby Rush of EyeVerify is representing KC.) The winner will then head to the Netherlands, where they’ll compete for a shot at $1 million in angel funding.
There’s something for everybody // No, really. There’s something for pretty much every kind of entrepreneur. Want to build your own company in 54 hours? Check out Startup Weekend. Trying to get help starting or growing your company? Make plans to attend GovFest at the Johnson County Library. Dying to meet Marc Ecko? GEW will make your dream come true. There are so. Many. Events. Get the complete scoop at KCSourceLink.
