5 More Startups Added to Digital Sandbox KC Slate

Digital Sandbox KC has accepted five new companies to participate in its proof-of-concept program for early-stage commercialization: Acre Designs, Passel, PatientsVoices, Royal Loyal and The Swapping Company.

“We’re excited to get 2015 off to a great start with an additional five companies receiving Sandbox funding,” said Jeff Shackelford, director of Digital Sandbox KC, in a release. “We want to continue to build on the success we’ve had in helping to start new companies and create new jobs throughout the Kansas City region.”

Since its inception in 2013, Digital Sandbox KC has helped more than 300 entrepreneurs and startups. The program has funded 42 proof-of-concept projects with 27 companies securing $12 million in subsequent funding. More than 150 jobs have been created in the process.

The latest companies approved for projects:

  • Acre Designs builds houses 60 percent faster and for as much as 60 percent less than the typical new residence. The company is developing its PassiveGeoX system, which aims to improve home energy efficiency.
  • Passel is working on a website and an app for iPhone and Android that let users schedule appointments on multiple calendars that are then sent to a unifying mobile calendar.
  • PatientsVoices improves patient feedback to hospitals so the facilities can boost the experience of patients and, in turn, retain Medicare payments based on customer satisfaction and quality ratings.
  • Royal Loyal is creating a universal mobile app that promotes products at gas stations, convenience stores and other small retailers that can’t afford to build their own mobile app.
  • The Swapping Company is an online platform that collects products available from resale fashion stores, consignment stores and individuals into a one-stop bazaar.
