Digital Sandbox KC has agreed to provide proof-of-concept resources to six more companies—the last of its initial funding.
The program has now provided funding to more than 40 local startups, and the Sandbox team is working to raise money for more proof-of-concept projects.
“When we launched Digital Sandbox, our stated goals were to develop proof of concept projects for at least 30 early-stage companies and help at least 10 secure significant revenues or investment funding over the two-year grant cycle” said Jeff Shackelford, director of Digital Sandbox KC. “We are well on our way to that goal.”
The six new companies are:
BigBang // a backend-as-a-service platform that helps developers build apps without maintaining in servers or infrastructure.
ClaimJockey // a service that manages long-term-care insurance claims.
Genneo // developers of a generator that converts the energy of a user’s stride into power for their cellphones and other devices.
Phisionary // developers of United Benefits Portal, a service that lets union members access information about their fringe benefits and securely pay their union contributions.
Your Adoption Finance Coach // offers online tools and financial solutions for families that are paying for adoptions.
Zorilla Research // creators of a technology that helps predict possible problems with new drugs, preventing late-stage drug trial failures.
The Digital Sandbox team will continue to meet with prospective startups while fundraising continues. Even though proof-of-concept funding isn’t immediately available, those meetings can offer feedback on concepts and pitches, and Sandbox leaders can connect startups with other resources in Kansas City.
“It’s clear that the Digital Sandbox’s proof-of-concept funding fills a need in the marketplace,” said Shackelford. “We’ve seen some amazing companies come out of the woodwork to pursue these early-stage project funds, and we are working very hard to continue what we’ve started. In the meantime, we can offer great connections and solid resources to startup tech companies.”
