Employee Appreciation Day is just around the corner—March 4!—but you don’t have to shell out big money to make your team members feel appreciated. (If you want to bring in a box of doughnuts, though, nobody’s going to complain.)
Turns out, one of the best ways to make your co-workers feel appreciated is with a simple thank-you note, said Janet Smith, principal at The Power of Goodwill, a consultancy that specializes in morale and workplace culture.
If you’re a little rusty, Smith has provided an easy-to-use, fill-in-the-blank thank-you note that you can share with others in your office.
“It’s easy to dash off a quick ‘thank you’ to someone via email, text, instant message or Facebook, and digital expressions of gratitude are absolutely a good thing,” Smith said. “It is rather rare to receive a handwritten thank-you note, though, and most of us consider it quite special when we do!”
It’s a regular part of her presentations, and you can download your own copy at her website.
“It is always a huge hit!” Smith said. “Most participants are so eager to read their thank-you messages out loud for the recipient (and everyone else present) to hear. Happy tears are sometimes shed, many hugs and high fives are exchanged, and the joy among participants is palpable.”
