Enhanced Surfaces Inc., a startup that specializes in extremely thin films, has moved into the Independence Economic Development Council’s Ennovation Center.
The company’s first offering is a film that’s less than a micron thick and that can be applied to surfaces in hospitals and other health care settings, providing another safeguard against germs.
“It will be of great importance to health care because every day we hear of a new superbug or infectious outbreak, and our product is a safety net to infection control because it’s safe and always there, working,” Enhanced Surfaces founder Don McNulty said.
“Other areas of use will be in food service and manufacturing, hospitality, sports and agriculture. Anywhere there is a concern of infection passing on to humans.”
Enhanced Surfaces is also working on a film that can be used in motors. The film will offer “super-lubricity,” increasing the life of the equipment. Future applications could include home siding, clothing and bed sheets.
