A fast-growing Shawnee logistics company is accelerating growth with the acquisition of a local company.
Tallgrass Freight Co. announced that it acquired Westport Business Group, which was founded in 2010. Principals Jeremy Hill and Scott Ragan join Tallgrass Freight as directors of truckload operations and bring their book of business.
“We are extremely excited to have Westport Business Group join the Tallgrass Freight family,” David Barnes, COO of Tallgrass Freight, said in a news release. “We not only added a great group of customers to our business, but we also added a valuable asset with both Jeremy and Scott’s experience.”
Tallgrass Freight, founded in 2012, offers a wide range of transportation and logistics services to small and mid-sized companies, including less than truckload (LTL) shipping, full truckload (FTL) shipping, flatbed services, intermodal services and more.
Barnes said Hill’s and Ragan’s extensive knowledge will help guide the expansion of Tallgrass Freight to the West Coast as the company continues an aggressive growth plan.
“Our organic growth has been tremendous,” Barnes said. “We’re projected to finish 2018 with 700 percent growth over our 2016 revenue. And this gives us significant momentum going into 2019, during which we expect to again double our revenue.”
Tallgrass Freight has appeared on numerous lists of fast-growing companies, including the 2018 Inc. 5000. It ranked as No. 1922 of the nation’s fastest-growing companies and reported $10.7 million in revenue. And it continues to look for further acquisition targets.
“By adding revenue through acquisitions and continued organic growth, we expect to be a $100 million company by 2021,” Barnes said.
“It’s been an exciting year for all of us at Tallgrass Freight, but we’re far from done. We surpassed our original growth plan more than two years early and look forward to even more success as we continue to redefine the logistics industry.”
