Kansas Department of Commerce to Host Reshoring Conference

Many American companies manufacture their goods offshore, translating to fewer jobs in this country.

To help alleviate that situation, the Kansas Department of Commerce is sponsoring the Kansas Edge Reshoring Conference on Sept. 25 at Wichita State University. The conference will explain how the state is in a favorable position to capitalize on the reshoring movement’s efforts to return jobs to the United States.

Conference attendees will discuss reshoring opportunities and resources for small and medium-sized business, highlighted by talks from Kansas business leaders who have effectively reshored manufacturing work from other countries.

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is scheduled to speak about the state’s new resources to help businesses in the reshoring area. The conference will also feature reshoring industry spokesperson Harry Moser, founder of the Reshoring Initiative, who will share his extensive knowledge about how businesses can profit from reshoring trends.

Other speakers and presentations:

• Robert B. Crain, senior vice president and general manager of agricultural equipment manufacturer AGCO, will talk about his company’s efforts to reshore production.

• Dr. John Tomblin, vice president for research and technology transfer at Wichita State University, will give a presentation on the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership.

• The owners of GTM Sportswear, JR Custom Metal and Lee Aerospace will participate in a roundtable discussion of their experiences operating small and medium-sized businesses in Kansas.

On-site registration for the Kansas Edge Reshoring Conference begins at 8 a.m. on Sept. 25. Opening remarks are at 8:30 a.m. The conference concludes at 11:45 a.m. The event will take place at Wichita State University’s Metropolitan Complex, Room 180, 5015 E. 29th St. N. in Wichita.
