Leawood’s SFP Acquired by Plant-Health Company Verdesian Life Sciences

Specialty Fertilizer Products of Leawood has been purchased by a plant-health company based in North Carolina.

The acquisition gives Verdesian Life Sciences access to SFP’s 270 patents and expands the company’s client base. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

“SFP’s innovative fertilizer solutions are a natural fit with Verdesian’s expansive product offerings that increase grower yields and return on investment,” said J.J. Grow, chief executive officer for Verdesian Life Sciences.

“Bringing SFP into the Verdesian family represents another step in our long‐term strategy to build a leading portfolio of plant health and nutrition products.”

Verdesian said it isn’t planning any staffing changes in the short term; top management will just report to new people. Larry Sanders—SFP’s founder, president and CEO—will become executive vice president of polymer technology and report to Grow.

SFP’s prices, distribution and other programs will stay the same for the rest of the year. In 2015, SFP will officially become Verdesian, and the company will create a combined sales force.
