Ovatemp’s Fertility-Tracking App Helps Women Become Pregnant Faster

Ovatemp, a recent graduate of the Sprint Accelerator, has built an app and a special Bluetooth thermometer that help women better track their fertility. According to CEO Ana Mayer, its customers are able to become pregnant six times faster.

Mayer gave an update about the startup’s progress at the June 24 edition of 1 Million Cups at the Kauffman Foundation. (You can watch the video here.)

Ovatemp started presales for its product in October, and it’s just started shipping its thermometers to buyers. (Its app can be downloaded for Apple products.) Mayer and co-founder Daniel Graf have looked into distribution through Walgreen, CVS and Wal-Mart, but for the time being, it’s focusing on sales through its website and through Amazon.

“We’re still figuring out the best distribution channels,” Mayer said, “but for now, it’s straight to consumers.”

Mayer and Graf, who are married, created Ovatemp as a result of their struggles to become pregnant. According to Mayer, about 12 percent of women face fertility issues.

And while Ovatemp’s focus has been on encouraging pregnancy, it can also be used by women of any age. Teenagers, for example, could use Ovatemp to track their periods and uncover problems like polycystic ovaries earlier.

Customer response has been very positive. Unlike many other fertility solutions, Ovatemp tailors its advice to each user based on their individual data, and Graf and Mayer are building a community of health coaches who can give consumers more in-depth advice for an extra fee.

“With Ovatemp, it’s not what works,” Mayer said. “It’s what works for you.”
