NBA star Klay Thompson is teaming up with local startup ShotTracker for a multiyear partnership.
Thompson, a shooting guard for the Golden State Warriors, will endorse ShotTracker’s system for helping players track their shooting attempts, and in June, he’ll help the company offer a “Virtual Basketball Camp” featuring drills and workouts that he devised.
Thompson also will serve as a consultant on developing and refining ShotTracker’s technology.
“Klay Thompson is an amazing role model for young athletes and truly represents what ShotTracker is all about on and off the court. We’re excited to be collaborating with him and to have his involvement in the future of ShotTracker,” said Davyeon Ross, co-founder and COO of ShotTracker. “The Virtual Basketball Camp gives basketball players everywhere the chance to train with one of the best NBA players of this generation.”
The Overland Park company’s product lets players automatically count how many shot attempts they made and how many were successful. Each player wears a ShotTracker sensor in a wrist band or compression sleeve, and it interacts with a sensor attached to the net. Both devices feed data to a smartphone app that players and coaches can monitor.
As part of the Virtual Basketball Camp, Thompson and ShotTracker will deliver daily workout programs to customers via the company’s smartphone app. Participants’ results will show up in a national leaderboard, and Thompson will reach out to them through social media.
The camp will run June 21-28. Players can register through ShotTracker’s website or app.
“The work put in during the off-season has a direct impact on success during the regular season,” Thompson said. “To get where you want to be, you have to train with game-time intensity all year long. ShotTracker helps players do this and holds them accountable.”
