Techstars KC Reveals Its Inaugural Class of Companies

The Techstars Kansas City Accelerator has just announced the 10 companies that will be part of its inaugural class. Four of the companies are Kansas City based.

Over the next three months, these startups will receive intensive training and mentoring designed to supercharge their growth. It’ll all lead up to a Demo Day on Oct. 12, when the participating entrepreneurs will present their concepts.

Techstars Kansas City is part of the internationally known network of accelerators. Techstars is no stranger to Kansas City – it previously helped manage the Sprint Accelerator. The new Techstars operation is being led by Lesa Mitchell, a former vice president at the Kauffman Foundation.

Here are the companies that make up the class:

Ampogee, Greensboro, North Carolina, has created a platform that makes it easier for manufacturing companies to track their progress – and even “gamifies” it, boosting worker engagement.

CasaIQ, Kansas City, Missouri, offers turnkey “smart home” technology that operators of multifamily housing can deliver to their tenants.

GRIT Virtual Construction, Wichita, Kansas, is a developer of virtual reality software.

Hanzo, Kansas City, Missouri, is an e-commerce platform designed to help businesses quickly scale up, and it supports crowdfunding and other types of alternative funding.

NexusEdge, Santa Monica, California, is an online platform that shows learners of all ages what skills they need for certain jobs, then connects them with online courses, micro-credentialing programs and other resources.

Planetarians, Kansas City, Missouri, creates high-protein, plant-based snacks (and eventually meals) as a way to combat the environmental impact of meat production.

REP, San Francisco, California, is an AI-powered tool that helps diagnose problems with the way a person moves. It’s designed for sports and physical rehabilitation.

Somatic Labs, Phoenix, Arizona, is the developer of haptic wearable technology – the first being the Moment watch. Instead of looking at a screen, wearers get information through a series of vibrations.

TeacherTalent, Austin, Texas, matches teachers with the schools where they’ll be the most effective.

Vector Legal Method,  Kansas City, Missouri, is a software solution that helps lawyers better manage their caseloads.
