UMKC Team Takes 2nd in National Contest for Freedom Bank Case Study

A team of students from the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Bloch School has taken second place in a national competition for a case study they created about Freedom Bank.

The contest was sponsored by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, and teams were challenged to produce a 15- to 20-page paper and a 10-minute video that promotes awareness of community banks.

UMKC’s team— Maria Davis, Jacob Renner, Dakota Sommerfield and Clara Stahl—worked with Kurt Knutson, Freedom Bank’s CEO and founder, and Dave Vander Veen, the bank president, who shared information about Freedom’s work with small business loans.

First place went to Southeastern Louisiana University. Twenty-three teams from 20 schools took part in the contest.

The UMKC team’s work will be featured at the Conference of State Bank Supervisors’ national meeting in September in St. Louis.

Freedom Bank is a past winner of Thinking Bigger Business Media’s 25 Under 25® Awards.
