This week at 1 Million Cups, audience members heard from a startup that wants to prevent severe headaches and another that makes event marketing easier.
Wellto.do is developing a service that helps users predict and prevent migraine headaches, co-founder and CEO Chris Cardinal said. Those predictions are based on data that’s passively gathered through a user’s phone. It’ll give users a personalized weekly forecast for when they’ll be most likely to suffer a migraine and will offer tips for preventing headaches. Right now, the company needs beta users who suffer from migraines. To learn more, visit the startup’s website.
Hoopla.io was actually a returning presenter. The company was one of the first startups to ever speak at 1 Million Cups, back when it was known as Local Ruckus, but Adam Arredondo and Matthew Marcus have since executed a pivot.
Hoopla.io provides a set of online marketing tools that helps local businesses promote their events more effectively and at a lower cost. Businesses pay a monthly subscription or a per-event fee for those tools. The other half of their business is providing free, accurate calendar listings to apps, websites and newspapers. (Which in turn creates value for the paying local businesses.) They’ve had some breakthroughs with larger customers, but are starting to target college towns, where it might be easier to gain traction. Learn more about the company here.
