Benny Lee, owner and president of DuraComm Corporation and a 25 Under 25® alumnus with Top Innovations, will receive the Philanthropist of the Year Award at the 30th annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon, presented by Nonprofit Connect.
The luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 7 at the Kansas City Marriott’s Muehlebach Tower, 200 W. 12th St. The event is open to the public.
Lee is a successful serial entrepreneur who last year, with his wife, donated $1 million to Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He has also generously supported such local institutions as the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the Kansas City Symphony, the United Way of Greater Kansas City and the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Other 2014 Philanthropy Award recipients are Jane Chu (Nonprofit Professional of the Year), who is president and CEO of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and was recently nominated by President Obama for Chairman of the National Endowment of the Arts; Jan Regan (Volunteer of the Year); and KSHB-TV/KMCI-TV (Business Philanthropist of the Year).
